With cost, time and the environment in mind
UFAB has built up a global network of subcontractors that fully share our commitment. This is time-consuming but necessary work. We have succeeded to the degree that we see sourcing as one of our key competencies.
UFAB works with strategic sourcing, which involves much more than just buying items on the basis of a price list. Cost is part of the process, of course, but it is all a matter of finding subcontractors that are able to provide the correct quality and meet defined requirements as well.
We have seven full-time staff working with purchasing and sourcing here. A lot of strategic work involves building relationships and carrying out quality controls, but if you were to handle your own sourcing you would need an organisation similar to the one UFAB has to offer. Instead, we can create synergies and collate purchases here, making things more efficient and saving you time and money. There are a number of advantages to this. You know we are competitive when it comes to materials, and at the same time you can feel secure in the knowledge that you will get the lowest possible prices while also maintaining the correct quality. We also do our best to achieve lead times that are as short as possible, thereby providing flexibility. Components that are used frequently or in many different machines are often in stock at our site already.
Besides raw materials for our own production, our sourcing also includes stainless steel components, milled and turned parts and standard components. We have a broad range of standard components to offer which includes pumps, sensors, pipe regulators, plastic components, hinges and glass for doors. UFAB installs machines containing up to 2000 different components. Sourcing involves not only materials and components, but also services such as finishing, painting and lacquer application.
Global network focusing on Europe and China
We have spent many years building up a global network of subcontractors, many of them in European countries that include Sweden, Poland and Italy, as well as in China. With a network distributed all over the world, transport is a key issue in terms of logistics, time and environmental impact. We have our own transportation procurement procedure and prefer to transport goods by rail rather than air, with the environment in mind. We often receive several shipments a day at our plant in Uddevalla.

What challenges do you have in sourcing?
“We want to streamline and not have to manage our own purchases”
A lot of resources are required if customers are to manage their own purchases. Using our sourcing service instead, with a supplier base that can meet all needs and requirements, provides a centralised function that streamlines work and reduces costs.
“The right items, on time and on budget”
UFAB works together with a global supplier base that is open to competition. An extensive cooperation where good relationships, experience, structure and procedures help us to bring in the right items, on time and on budget.
“It is important for us to make sure our supplier and logistics flow cause as little environmental impact as possible”
Our environmental efforts permeate everything we do. Among other things, we measure the amount of CO2 produced by our transportation efforts and have action plans in place to reduce our impact. We also persuade our suppliers to use eco-friendly packaging and shipping options.
“We want to feel secure with the quality of the components included”
Following a long period of cooperation with its supplier base, UFAB is able to guarantee the quality of what it delivers thanks to industrialisation at supplier and component level, among other things.
“Documentation of the logistics flow, suppliers and price is important to us”
UFAB’s purchasing department has well-established system support, which means you can feel secure with all documentation.
Customers on land, at sea and in the air
UFAB work with customers in a variety of industries. Packaging, medicine, automotive, aircraft and agricultural machhinery. This is a wide range of fields with one thing in common, our assignments require precision – in their execution and in their delivery.
With experienced CAD design and production in-house, we can easily take your idea from drawing to production and get samples and prototypes back to you rapidly. Working closely with customers enables continuous improvement and guarantees the quality of the finished product.
Our extensive experience in the field means that we can offer solutions to the most complicated sheet metal designs. Your product is manufactured in our sheet metal forming machines and assembled by our certified welders.
Small high volume components or large and complex components. Our machine park can machine materials such as steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Together with our subcontractors, we can offer you end-to-end solutions and short lead times.
With flexibility and expertise, we assemble both complete machines and subsystems. In large takted flows or smaller series. The assembly can be part of a complete production process or as a separate service.
